FAQs

What do people commonly come to therapy for?

People seek out therapy for a variety of reasons, whether it be major life changes or realizing that now is a good time to start exploring themselves and how they relate to the world around them. Therapy can help with empowering individuals to use their own strengths to tackle challenging new situations and relationships, increased stress, or changes in mood and emotions as a whole.

What is EMDR and how will it help me?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is one of the most evidence-based and effective treatments of PTSD (both acute and severe) and several other mental health disorders, including anxiety, OCD, and depression. Overall, it helps to rewire neural networks in the brain to perceive trauma in a more emotionally and rationally balanced way, decreasing triggers and trauma related symptoms.

What types of populations do you work with?

I have extensive experience working with children and adolescents as young as 8 up through older adulthood. This includes a variety of communities, including trans and LGBT youth, BIPOC, those coping with chronic health disorders, those with extensive as well as acute trauma histories, and more.

what type of therapy will i need?

I use evidence-based and strengths focused approaches which translate into an overall holistic approach. These methods include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, EMDR, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems theory (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Attachment Based Therapy.
